Intergenia traded under three different hosting brands – PlusServer, serverloft and SERVER4YOU. The company benefitted from an industry-leading low-cost base due to its proprietary automated server provisioning platform (ERP system) and its data centre in Strasbourg, which is cooled by an underground river and is one of Europe’s most efficient data centres.

Alongside the hosting services, Intergenia runs World Hosting Days, the world’s leading B2B professional tradeshow dedicated to the hosting and cloud industry. It is the “must-attend” event for the hosting industry, with over 10,000 attendees. Intergenia was started by founders Thomas Strohe and Jochen Berger when they were fifteen years old.

Oakley acquired a majority stake from the founders in December 2011 at an enterprise value of €84m and partnered with the founders to grow and develop the business. Intergenia undertook a successful buy-and-build strategy where it acquired five competitors in a relatively short period. In January 2015, the business was sold to Host Europe Group at an enterprise value of €210m, generating a 2.5x return and a 36% IRR.
